Shivangi Tiwari Using Business Skills for Social Impact

Meet Our Fellows Blog Series: Shivangi Tiwari

Shivangi (pictured front row, second from the left) co-founded a student group Consult Your Community at Purdue University. Their team enjoyed the opportunity to provide pro bono consulting services to small businesses.

Given the peripatetic nature of my life, I grew up in a myriad of cultures. I completed high school in Hyderabad, India that holds the title of my home. But Indiana comes in for a close second. I am a proud alumna of Purdue University having recently graduated with a degree in Finance. At Purdue, I was exposed to the idea of social entrepreneurship while pursuing a certificate program. Concurrently, I came across the opportunity to co-found a student organization, Consult Your Community, focused on providing pro bono consulting services to small business owners. These experiences shaped my desire to use my business skills for a social good. I made a conscious decision to delve deeper in the social impact industry and interned at a social incubator, impact investment firm, and finally at enFocus.

As an enFocus intern, I was given the opportunity to develop a marketing strategy for a local nonprofit. The autonomous nature of projects and direct interaction with executives provided deeply fulfilling work. I knew that this satisfaction was something I desired in my professional career so returning to enFocus as a Fellow was not even a question.

Currently, as a First Year Innovation Fellow, I have immersed myself in a number of sprint projects. The projects at enFocus are fast-paced and uniquely challenging! In a few short months, I have been able to collaborate with team members to solve issues like the future of our workforce and build innovation in the region through federal funding. And personally, I am proud that our work consistently strives to make our community a better place.
