Rachel Rediscovers her Hometown through her enFocus Experience

Meet our Fellows Blog Series: Rachel Casetti

Rachel as a Purdue student giving a tour to prospective students and their families.

I am Rachel Casetti and I am from the South Bend area. I  graduated from Purdue this past spring with a degree in Interdisciplinary Engineering. During my time at Purdue, I was a tour guide for the College of Engineering and loved interacting with prospective students and families. I also participated in Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS), volunteered at the hospital, and played intramural sports. I explored many different career options throughout my undergrad and I knew I wanted a career focused on helping people.  Originally, I wanted to pursue medicine because I saw it as the most direct way to impact people’s lives.  Over the summer of 2018 and 2019, I had the opportunity to intern at enFocus and these experiences helped shape my future career goals. I saw that I didn’t need to work in the medical field to directly impact the lives of others. This opened my eyes to a whole new world of career opportunities.

enFocus has also given me the chance to experience South Bend from a different perspective. Instead of going to familiar restaurants and sticking to the same events I’ve been going to my whole life, I was challenged to explore new parts of the city. Through several enFocus events, I was introduced to new restaurants and experiences. I made time for local events that I had heard about but hadn’t attended. enFocus has provided a unique experience of not only giving back to my community, but rediscovering it!

Through my enFocus experience, I have had the opportunity to make a difference in my community and have gained a deeper appreciation for my hometown.
