Nithali Sridhar, Exploring South Bend through two Perspectives
Meet Our Fellows Blog Series: Nithali Sridhar
My name is Nithali Sridhar. I’m from Omaha, NE, and I graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Data Science. I’ve always been fascinated by the interdisciplinary application of Data Science because I believe that pattern finding algorithms don’t need to be restricted by certain domains such as autonomous vehicles or show recommendations. During my time at the University of Michigan, I joined MHEAL to develop a secure and reliable application for doctors to input patient data in rural Nicaragua. I also worked with Collective for Youth to analyze the Omaha Public Schools System to audit whether their programs were serving all children, and how resources could be better allocated. Through these experiences, I realized that Data Science could be applied to a multitude of domains, and I was drawn to enFocus because they also shared this vision. enFocus is not only committed to data-driven solutions, but they also design and implement plans with lasting impact and meaningful differences in mind.
Through enFocus, I have been able to explore South Bend and the surrounding region from both an analytical and recreational perspective. As an embedded Fellow residing in South Bend, I have learned about the dedication to innovation and the civic engagement South Bend has achieved and continues to pursue. Through this position, I’m immersed in the data-driven solutions the city has pursued to better citizen lives. Because I know of the careful planning and the commitment to increase economic development, I have learned to look at the city amenities, such as Howard Park, with a more appreciative eye. My time with the South Bend Schools Corporation has taught me to appreciate my own education and the time and effort invested in providing children with the best opportunities possible. I took my own education for granted, and my work with SBCSC administration has taught me to recognize a great deal of preparation goes into running a school district with or without a pandemic. My free time has allowed me to explore both South Bend and the region. My roommate and I have made it a point to hike every weekend, and hope to visit most of the state parks in the Michiana area.
enFocus has provided a unique opportunity to explore the operations of the City of South Bend through both the local government and school district, and I’ve been able to appreciate the fruits of these operations through recreation.
