The enFocus internship provides young professionals with new skills, while helping them build relationships and confidence to step out into the world where an infinite number of opportunities await. Professional development sessions, networking events, and hands-on experience provide our interns inspiration to create a positive impact in our communities.
As our summer internship comes to an end, we’d like to share what our interns look forward to beyond their time at enFocus.
Bingjie Liu from Qingdao, China and studying at Washington University in St. Louis, shares that his initial career aspiration is to be in management consulting. Through consulting work, he hopes to gain insight into specific industries and sectors to help him understand his professional interests. He feels that enFocus has provided him with valuable work experience because of the high-level of ownership within each project.
Additionally, he says, “the opportunity to lead and own the project strengthens my leadership and problem-solving skills. Not only do I need to meet all the required deliverables for each project, I also get to think about what each project looks like from start to finish, what short- and long-term impacts I can make for my sponsors, and what resources I can utilize to help me achieve these goals.” At enFocus interns are given autonomy allowing them to take ownership of their projects.
Passawit Puangseree, a Purdue University student, is also interested in becoming a consultant. He says that interacting with different team members develops the soft skills he will need in the future. He shares, “another important skill that I honed during my time at enFocus is being able to learn on the fly. As different projects require different skill sets, I will carry what I learned at enFocus into the consulting world.”
Likewise, Hank Greeves is also excited to implement what he has learned in his future professional aspirations. The University of Michigan student from Chevy Chase, Maryland, expresses that his aim is to specialize in the research and design aspects of the medical device industry. During his time at enFocus, Hank immersed himself in the post-market domain of medical devices, working towards equitable access to a device through securing insurance approvals, and garnering recognition from medical professionals.
Hank expresses, “the hands-on experience has provided me with valuable insights that I am confident will be instrumental in pursuing equity when engaging in pre-market device development in the future.” As Hank discusses, the insights our interns gain are not only about professional experience, but also about navigating a career that will continue to serve our entrepreneurial ecosystem, communities, and individuals.
As we come to the end of the eight-week internship, we hope our interns reflect on the valuable skills and perspectives they have gained during their time at enFocus. The project support our interns provide continues to drive innovation in our region, and we can’t wait to see how they will continue to make a difference as they launch into their professional careers.
